Sodium Chloride (NaCl) Windows are perfect for FTIR spectroscopy, with NaCl being a common, low-cost material offering excellent transmission from 250nm to 16m. Over this broad range, the index of refraction varies between 1.4 and 1.6. As it's hygroscopic, water should be avoided. These windows are temperature-resistant up to 400C but sensitive to thermal shock. NaCl has a density of 2.17 g/cm3 and a Knoop Hardness of 18.2.
