Their sharp, clean, specially treated ceramic abrasive grain, embedded in thin, flexible bristles, enables them to outperform rubber wheels, brushes, buffs, and conventional sanders, working faster and lasting longer. These discs generate minimal dust and heat, eliminating the need for polishing compound. Recommended operating speeds range from 3,000 to 18,000 RPM (5,000 RPM for woodworking). Lower speeds offer a softer touch, greater flexibility, and more subtle results, while higher speeds provide more aggressive material removal. Using the tips of the bristles with light pressure maximizes disc life.
