Ammonite is the colloquial term for Ammonoids. Ammonoids are an extinct cephalopod. They got their name for their unique, spiral shape. The most recent species of Ammonoids were the order Ammonitida. They were the last remaining group of Ammonoids, alive during the Jurassic Period and disappearing around 66 million years ago. This is a polished matching pair of Ammonite fossils. They have radiant and beautiful colors, along with a mesmerising sprial shape. People use them for decorations, jewelry, earring, and more! The name ammonite comes from the sprial shape of their fossilized shells. They look similar to a coiled rams' horn. Pliny the elder coined the name by referring to Ammonite fossils as ammonis cornua (the horns of Ammon). THis is because the Edgyption God Amun typically was depicted in folklore wearing rams' horns.
