About this item: Inspired by the art and customs of the Akan people, Samuel Okyere designs a regal mask aptly termed Ahenfo. It means "royal" in the Twi dialect of the Akan people. Okyere carves the sese wood mask by hand featuring a crown, and decorates it with embossed aluminum plates and painted details. "This mask is intended to symbolize a powerful king, " explains the Ghanaian artisan. - Hand-crafted item -- color, size and/or motif may vary slightly About our Artist: 'I used to work as a messenger in a bank, but I realized I could do much better things with my life so I decided to go into arts, especially carving. I did not really undergo any actually training, but started carving bit by bit and sometimes sought help from my other colleagues. Sometimes I assisted them too. Eventually I became very skilled in carving and I then decided to settle for full time carving and depend solely on my own ideas to carve. Now I have assistants and I also train other carvers. '
