A 3M best-in-class tool designed to optimize the performance of 3M™ Abrasives, this sander features a 1/8" orbit diameter ideal for flat surface finishing and sealer sanding, and a rectangular 70 x 198 mm (2-3/4 x 7-3/4 inch) pad that enables access to the corners of a workpiece. Built with a powerful, precision-balanced 0.28 hp motor and durable lightweight aluminum housing, this ergonomically designed workhorse stands up to industrial production and reduces user fatigue for hours of comfortable operation. This Elite central-vacuum-ready sander can be connected to a central vacuum system or used with an external portable vacuum such as a shop vacuum. It has a threaded attachment feature that enables easy yet secure attachment and detachment of a 1" external threaded vacuum hose to effectively eliminate dust from the workpiece and surrounding space. High Performance, Superior Ergonomics Designed with the operator in mind, 3M™ Elite Series Random Orbital Sanders are loaded with ergonomic features that decrease work strain and improve productivity. Wrist and hand support: Extended curved wrist rest reduces stress on hand and wrist and provides additional leverage. Recessed lever platform eliminates pinch and pressure points on the operator’s palm. Three grip sizes enable operator preference. The grip diameter on the tool is 2-3/4", with two additional grip sizes available (diameters of 2-1/2" and 3", sold separately).Reduced vibration: The rubber grip absorbs and reduces vibration and features 3M™ Gripping Material for a stronger grip and more control with less effort.Durable composite cover extends to the base to absorb vibration and keeps tools in service by preventing cracked housings. Enhanced safety features: Internal muffler protects operator hearing and will not break off. Convenient thumb-controlled speed dial reduces inadvertent speed changes. 3M™ Hookit™ Clean Sanding Pad Included for Optimal Performance Included with this sander is one 3M Hookit Clean Sanding Pad 28531, recommended for flat sanding operations. Designed specifically to optimize the performance of this tool, the Clean Sanding pad enables dust extraction and minimizes vibration for smooth operation. Offering convenience and versatility, the Hookit system enables easy grade changes using 3M Hookit Sheets in a range of grades (Hookit sheets sold separately). Using Your Pneumatic Sander This tool is intended to be operated as a handheld tool and is air-powered. It requires an air compressor that will provide a clean lubricated air supply with an airflow rate of 17 standard cubic feet per minute (SCFM), or 481 liters per minute (LPM), and 90 pounds per square inch (psi) at the tool, i.e. the point where the air hose is connected to the tool, when the tool is running with the level fully depressed. Recommended is an approved 3/8 inch (10 mm) airline at the minimum length required for the application, with a maximum length of 25 feet (8 m).
