Their design, by Frank Gasparro, features Anthony on the obverse and an eagle landing on the Moon on the reverse. Composed of copper-nickel, these dollars were smaller than predecessors. Susan B. Anthony Dollars honor a pioneering advocate for gender equality. Despite a brief mintage, they hold historical significance as the first U.S. coin to feature a non-mythical woman.
