The E-Series, or Entwicklung program, was initiated by Dipl Ing Heinrich Ernst Kniekamp, head of Waffenprfamt 6, in May 1942. In April 1943, the Heereswaffenamt approved the program, commissioning various manufacturers to develop a standardized, general-purpose chassis to replace German Army armored vehicles and tanks by 1945. The six basic designs were to share common parts, simplifying production, maintenance, and service. However, in April 1944, Adolf Hitler halted further development of super heavy tanks, leading to the abandonment of the unfinished E-100. The end of World War II marked the end of the E-Series program, which ranged from blueprints to prototypes.
