This wired door chime is capable or running off a wired doorbell transformer OR batteries. This means, for example, if you don't have a wired doorbell transformer you can simply insert batteries into the wired chime and it will work--WITH ONE CAVEAT! If you use batteries you CANNOT use a lighted wired doorbell button. This is because a lighted button is constantly drawing power and would quickly drain the batteries. So, if you are using a doorbell transformer, just about any wired doorbell push button will work. If you use batteries, make sure to use a NON-LIGHTED wired doorbell push button.
