Daterra Estates is the first farm to have achieved Rainforest Alliance certification in Brazil. Over a 10 year period, owner Luis Pascoal, experimented with cattle and avocadoes on his farm, but eventually found his way to coffee, and his love for it. The Cerrado region of Brazil boasts the first award for Designation of Origin status, similar to a famous wine-producing region, but this region is also a biodiversity hotspot. Areas are reforested using native tree species, and large patches of cerrado habitat are being preserved. Many high quality coffees and espressos are made from Brazil Cerrado due to their balanced flavor, even when dark roasted.
