  • HAND CRAFTED IN AFRICA – Africa Heartwood Project djembes are hand-carved by experienced drum makers in West Africa, supported by the non-profit Africa Heartwood Project. The Classical djembes are specially crafted with sound quality and playability in mind, with additional attention given to aesthetics. The 13" x 24" is a standard size djembe, suitable for most adult male and female drummers
  • COW SKIN – This djembe has a cow skin drum head, which some drummers really favor as it gives the drum strong, deep tones and thicker slaps while retaining the full bass response. The cow skin djembe is great in a West African ensemble as a bass djembe, offering a distinct sound that sets djembe accompaniments apart. If you are the kind of djembe player with a heavier playing technique, or if you just love the richness of a thicker skin sound, this djembe is for you!
  • SOLID ONE-PIECE CONSTRUCTION – Made from solid, one-piece Mansonia, a legally harvested hardwood abundant in West Africa. The wood is treated with coconut oil and shea butter to hydrate and beautify it, then sealed on the outside with transparent wood lacquer to lock in moisture and prevent cracking.
  • READY TO PLAY RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX - After import from Africa, each musical instrument is cleaned, inspected, tuned, and played individually to check sound and quality.
  • SUPPORTING COMMUNITY AND TRADITION – Our musical instruments and accessories are unique. All our products are hand-crafted in Africa by village cultural artisans. Each purchase contributes directly to Africa Heartwood Project, supporting the livelihoods of communities in Africa. This non-profit, run by passionate volunteers, fights poverty and promotes community development in West Africa. Your choice makes a difference, blending the joy of music with social impact.
