Ahti Jahti Puukko Carbon Steel Scandinavian Knife from Finland

Ahti knives are made in Kauhava, which is in Finland. Kauhava has been a center of knife making for hundreds of years, and is at the heart of the Finnish knife culture. These knives are made in the shop of Reino Kamppila. His production is limited, but this insures that the quality is up to his exacting standards. The carbon steel blades (.8%C) are hardened to about 59 on the Rockwell scale. The handles are stained birch and sanded to a medium finish for improved grip, and the fittings are polished brass. All of the traditional Ahti have full length tangs with the end of the tang visible at the pommel end of the handle.The Jahti ("Yacht") has a hefty blade with a unique clip-point profile, and a ample belly for skinning, while still being short enough for gutting. The sanded and stained curly birch handle fills the hand and provides a solid, firm grip even when wearing gloves or mittens. The full-length tang is evident by the brass nut on the pommel, giving this knife added durability.
