The work 36 Etudes for Violin. Elementary and progressive for Violin. [Exclusively for those, who want to prepare for the famous Kreutzer Etudes]. Opus. 20 by the German composer, violinist, and pedagogue Heinrich Ernst Kayser was published in 1870 in three volumes. Our main source was Hamburg : Cranz, fortunately, a very well preserved copy of the first edition of volumes 1 and 2 is in the Hamburg State and University Library -- M B/4060:1 and M B/4060:2. For volume 3 we have used a copy from 1890 from the publisher Hamburg : Cranz now in the Bavarian State Library. urn:nbn:de:bvb:12-bsb00133520-5.This edition has distributed the measures in a convenient way to obtain better page turns and thus make the reading easier. The Etudes have kept the exact number of the main sources, as some modern editions have been known to swap or alter the order for some reason. In addition, the Etudes do not have a specific cycle that has to do with tonalities. The book explores the use of 1st position to 5th position. The technical preparation for the performer includes bow strokes, staccato, legato, repetitions, detaché, use of double stops in a few cases, arpeggios, tremolos, demands of bow regions, trills, and melodious passages of great rhythmic richness which are indispensable for the learning of the student or amateur player. Our Urtext version attempts to convey closely or faithfully the composer's intention for the benefit of the violin student. Although the 36 Etudes are well written, in the musical text there are nuances of volume and diminuendo hairpins where it is uncertain to know exactly when they begin or end, or whether they are accents on the notes, although to try to clarify all this, we have consulted other editions but it has not been conclusive. Roisber Narvaez Verlag is always in search of fastidious veracity, and rigorous research and through experience have tried to solve this type of conflict by correcting these discrepancies and placing the possible solutions in grey.
