Application - for any reflective product to be effective at managing heat, ONE side of the product must face an air space of least 3/4" thick or more. This air space can be much larger such as the attic space. This air space can be on either side of the heat source for it to be effective. Material Type - radiant barriers are produced from either aluminum layers or polyester films metalized with aluminum. THIS PRODUCT is manufactured with aluminum layers reinforced with a fiberglass fabric scrim for durability. Reflectivity - according to ASTM International, in order for a product to be classified as a radiant barrier, it must have a reflectivity rating of 90% or more. Reflectivity testing for THIS PRODUCT came back with a reflective value of 95-97%. Breathability - a breathable radiant barrier allows for water vapor to pass through small perforations (holes) in the material. THIS PRODUCT is perforated for breathability which is recommended when used in an attic space. Fire Rating - ASTM International test E84 is a test that evaluates the surface burning characteristics of building materials. This test provides ratings for both the rate at which a flame spreads (FSR) across a product and the amount of smoke it produces. Fire rating testing for THIS PRODUCT came back with a Class A / Class 1 fire rating; the best rating for a building material. It indicates the product has the slowest rate of flame spread and produces the least amount of smoke when burning. While a Class A / Class 1 fire rated product is the best rating for a building material, it does NOT mean the building material is fire proof; just that it has a higher fire resistance that other lower fire rated products.
