Pale Hearts Are Best: One Lifetime of Pictures and Poetry Hardcover – March 6, 2026

This book combines selected short poems, beloved people, and significant subjective experiences. My poems are condensed but simple. These poems were not written to be published. They were for my sole use; to reflect on relationships or to process events. I have spent fifty years with some of them, and less time with others, but they are all older than my decision to share them. As I approach the end of this lifetime, I am deleting some memories and sharing others, new activities for me. The included poems and photographs reflect the latter half of twentieth century life. For me, the poems were a shield, sometimes a sword, but always an answer I needed, sometimes more than once. The experiences are real and described as best I can.
