Lithium-ion batteries are commonly used to power computers, smart phones, and tablets. Although inexpensive, lightweight, and convenient, these batteries can be extremely dangerous. Damaged or defective batteries have the potential to overheat, burst into flames, and spontaneously combust in an event called “thermal runaway.” Lithium ion batteries have become integral to the way we communicate, conduct business, and enjoy leisure time, so they aren't going anywhere anytime soon. This lightweight fabric-based system is designed to contain a lithium ion battery fire until it safely burns out. The primary component of the laptop bag is Z-Block Fire & Smoke Barrier Fabric, which meets all key federal regulations for the transport of hazardous materials, including the Federal Aviation Administration's FAR 25 Appendix F Part III for Flame Penetration Resistance. Z-Block is the same material used by the United States Navy, air cargo companies, and leading airlines in products designed to contain pallet fires.

• This kit includes X20 Z-Flex Gloves to protect hands from extreme heat and a Z-Sil Silica Fire Blanket to knock down flames and fire barrier while placing the device in the fire containment bag.
