This book explores several topics related to the sentence of life without parole. It delves into the history of commutation and pardons, the evolution of the life sentence and a state-by-state overview of the sentence. The controversial use of a life sentence for juveniles is also reviewed and how this continues to evolve. Perhaps most importantly this book follows those that have been the exception and been paroled from a life sentence as it explores recidivism and redemption.
