THE KYOTO BASSEN is a collaboration collection between the denim brand JOHNBULL, which has its own factory in Kojima, Kurashiki City, Okayama, and the Yuzen techniques of Kyoto.
The background of this collection is Kyo-Yuzen, one of the three major Yuzen dyeing techniques in Japan, which flourished and developed in Kyoto. It is renowned worldwide for its gorgeous and extravagant dyeing techniques.
THE KYOTO BASSEN is a new project that uses the Yuzen techniques of Kyoto artisans to dye denim.
"RAINBOW" uses a stencil for kata-yuzen (stencil dyeing) to discharge the denim, and then, using the hand-drawn yuzen technique of hiki-zome (brush dyeing), artisans use brushes to apply colors one by one to the discharged areas. This is a unique product that showcases the craftsmanship and refined sensibilities of the artisans.
