Vintage 1878 testimonial book presented to Mr. Robert Evan Roberts for 25 years as Governor of the Bedford County Prison, England.
Condition: Good vintage condition with visible wear to spine edges and corners as shown in photos. Exterior has scuffing and some splits along the spine. Inner pages are well preserved for their age, marbled endpapers intact, with minor edge wear and foxing present.
Hand-inked presentation manuscript on the occasion of the April 1878 Quarter Sessions honoring Mr. Roberts' service from April 1853 to April 1878.
Features illuminated hand-drawn calligraphy, heraldic Bedfordshire crests, signatures of officials, historic newspaper clippings, and handwritten testimonial letters from colleagues (dated 1885).
Front cover reads: "April 1853. R.E.R. April 1878." in gold gilt with decorative border. Inside states: "Testimonial to Mr. Robert Evan Roberts for 25 Years Governor of the Bedford County Prison."
