This is a Montecristi Panama hat made in the 1930s.
Made in Montecristi, Ecuador, it is considered one of the finest Panama hats, and each one takes several months to complete.
There is a crack in the front brim from the time of purchase, as shown in images 6 and 7.
There are also cracks in the inner leather band.
If there were no cracks, it would be worth over 150,000 yen.
Reproducing it with modern technology would cost over 300,000 yen.
When looking at the crown lining from the inside, the more rings created when weaving the material, the finer the weave is said to be. This hat has 10 rings visible.
Aside from the crack in the front brim, it is in good condition for its age. There is no problem with wearing it.
