Manganese Kasuri
This fabric is woven from yarn dyed with manganese (a mineral), and the pattern is created using oxidation and reduction in the printing process. It was developed in Niigata Prefecture's Mitsuke City during the Taisho era.
With the decline in demand for traditional Japanese clothing, there is now only one factory in Japan that can perform manganese dyeing. It has been 30 years since it became the last remaining factory, and it is one of Japan's valuable techniques.
